1. The purpouse of anecdotes (stories)
Someond asked Hazqat Abul Qaasim Junaid (Rahmatullah alayh): "Hazrat, what benefit do the Mureedeen derive from the stories of the Auliaa?" He said: "Stories (of the Auliaa) are one of the armies of Allah Ta'aala. The hearts of the Mureedeen derive strength and peace from these anecdotes." The questioner asked for proof of this claim. Hazrat Junaid said: "Allah Ta'aala says in the Holy Qur'aan Majeed:
"[b]Every episode which We narrate to you from the stories of the Messangers, We strengthen therewith your heart."

An attitude of love for the world

A Buzurg (Saint) from Basrah once visited Hadhrat Raabiah Basriyyah (Rahmatullah Alayha). In her presence he was vehemently criticizing the world. She said : "It appears that you have great love for the world. If you truly had no love for the world, you would not have engrossed yourself so much with the accursed world. When one loves something one speaks much of."
