Putting the elbows on the ground in Sajdah
Q: Many people place their forearms and elbows on the ground when in Sajdah. Will this make the Salaah Makrooh?
A: The Masnoon method for a male to perform Sajdah is with the forearms apart from the sides. The elbows should not touch the ground. The belly should be apart from the thighs and the hands should be in line with the ears. The fingers should be held together facing the Qiblah. The toes should be firmly placed on the ground facing the Qiblah. It is Makrooh-e-Tahreemi for a man to place his elbow on the ground whilst facing the Qiblah.

Yes this is a common mistake and generally a result of laziness. But we should keep in mind as was indicated that this rule applies to males only. The method of Sajdah for females differs i.e. They will put their arms on the ground with the stomach touching the thighs.
And Allah Ta'ala knows best.

you are right my respected brother but men or women should not put their arms on the ground ever. the toes should touch the floor, and the palms of both handsbut not allow elbows to touch the floor...
woman do the same with her hands as man but not to open them so widely but to make them close to her body and never put her arms on the ground.
and Allah knows the best
